A message from Garry Deutsch, Fabrication Services Manager
As we head into 2015 there are many changes happening within the construction division. One of them is a new and determined focus with our manufacturing shop.
We can't call it the pipe shop anymore because of the plumbing fabrication we have done in the past. Now, we are going full steam ahead in bringing in fabricated pieces of duct work for assembly. We are installing several pieces together for ease of installation in the field.
Within the manufacturing department there are many things happening, from developing standards for sheet metal, piping and plumbing so that any new foreman would know what materials we would expect them to order and install.
We have partnered up with Kraemer Design Services (KDS) and they will be using our standards as well to draw coordination drawings with MAP sheets for all trades. We will use these MAP sheets to fabricate our duct work, piping and plumbing.
In the shop, you will see that some small changes are happening already, but in the coming months, you will see significant changes made with equipment, material and storage changes as we want to incorporate lean strategies going forward.
Ted Holloway is working with KDS and our foremen to ensure there are no problems when we order duct from our vendors. Ted is also placing full duct orders using Omni's software that they installed for us a few weeks ago.
Ted has made great strides with this in the past few months and will continue to do so in the future.
Robert Lake is our shop foreman. He has taken on more responsibilities than he has had in the past. His responsibilities now include shipping and receiving and tool repair. Robert is very eager to get going with all of the changes that we want to make in the shop.
I have been working with KDS on establishing piping standards that we want to see on any of our projects. Plumbing standards will be next.
I know that with Ted and Robert we have a good team put together to move forward and make considerable contribution to developing, designing and implementing ideas to help our field foremen be more productive and make installations easier for them and their field teams.
My goal with Robert and Ted's help is to make our manufacturing shop lean, productive and in a class second to none here in the Phoenix area.
When we bring customers into our shop I want them to feel confident that we are the contractor for them.
